Web Scraper and Web Macros FAQs

It is recommended not to change the password in order to ensure Web Scraper can connect to the database. Two workarounds are
  • In SQL Server Management Studio, connect to .\PROVIDUSSTD and right click PROVIDUSSTD in the object explorer (usually the right pane) and choose properties. Then click Connections and uncheck "Allow remote server connections to this server". This should limit access to the database to being from your machine only.
  • If you keep remote connections on, you can still "hide" behind your router and/or firewall to limit access to within your network only.
If you these workarounds aren't sufficient, you can try changing the following although we do not recommend it and cannot guarantee Web Scraper will continue working:
  • From the start menu, select Run and type "regedit"
  • Under LocalMachine\Software\Velocityscape change the connection string. It will look like a random sequence of characters are first because it is encoded. But you can change it to whatever you need. Something like "Password=PASS;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=sa;Initial Catalog=master;Data Source=(local)\;"
  • Also in SQL Management Studio, in ProvidusDB->Tables->settings change the ShapeCnStr to what you put in the registry
